How to Purchase a Firearm or Ammunition Online

What is considered a Firearm?

Firearms include: handguns, pistols, revolvers, shotguns, rifles, serialized lower receivers, serialized barrels, suppressors, some other types of receivers and frames, and any other weapon designed to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive.

ALL FIREARMS (and in some areas ammunition!) MUST BE SHIPPED to a licensed firearms dealer. The dealer will complete your background check and transfer the firearm into your name.

What is a "Licensed Dealer?"

A business or entity that maintains a current FFL (Federal Firearms License.) Examples include gun stores, pawn shops, firing ranges, sporting goods stores, and gunsmiths or other individuals.

**IMPORTANT** PLEASE ALWAYS CAREFULLY INSPECT ALL FIREARM PURCHASES BEFORE TRANSFER. ONCE YOU HAVE TAKEN THE FIREARM FROM THE DEALER, WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCEPT RETURNS. IF THERE IS ANY PROBLEM WITH THE FIREARM, PLEASE STOP, AND CALL OUR CUSTOMER SUPPORT TEAM AT 800-715-7709.

Can I purchase a firearm with a C & R (Class 03) license?

No, you may only purchase firearms designated as “Curios and Relics.”

Does BDU have a list I can choose from?

We will be adding that feature soon! Stay tuned!

In the meantime, we DO have many FFL licenses already on file. Please feel free to call us anytime during normal business hours, and one of our representatives will be happy to assist you and check to see what is available in your area.

Can I use an FFL dealer that you do not already have on file at BDU?

Yes! The copy of the license can be emailed to us at [email protected], referencing your order number in the subject line. If you need assistance, our customer support team will be happy to contact the FFL dealer on your behalf. Once you’ve purchased your first firearm with us, the license will remain on file and upon your request, future firearms orders can be shipped to the same FFL with nothing further needed.

How old do I have to be to purchase a firearm?

You must be 18 years or older to purchase a shotgun or rifle, and 21 years or older to purchase all other firearms. Our computer system does not know your age, so your account will allow the purchase, but you will NOT be able to accept transfer at your FFL. This will cause an unnecessary return and restocking fees for which you will be responsible. Age restrictions also apply to ammunition.

Can you ship AMMUNITION directly to my home?

Unless your state has restrictions on receiving ammunition to your home, we can ship directly to you. You may also have an exemption, even if you are in a restricted state. Unfortunately, we are unable to ship ammunition to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, or any other U.S. Territories outside the contiguous United States.

What should I look for when choosing an FFL dealer for the first time?

You will want to look for an FFL dealer with a good reputation, reasonable transfer fees, and convenience to your location.

Will the rest of the items in my order ALSO ship to my FFL dealer?

NO! Most FFL dealers do not have the storage space and will not accept any non-firearm items from your order.

Do I need to place a separate order for non-firearm items?

No. We are all about saving YOU money! IMPORTANT: Leave YOUR shipping address in your account as the actual address where you’d like any and all non-firearm items to be received. (We will acquire the FFL dealer’s address directly from their license.) Don’t worry! We will not ship any firearms directly to your home!

Are any items restricted in my state?

Maybe! Please check your state’s restrictions here: CLICK HERE for a list of restrictions. Or, contact your local FFL dealer and they should be able to assist you. You may also check your state’s Attorney General website for more information.

Am I exempt from restrictions because I am law enforcement or military?

You might be! The ATF website contains information listed by state regarding who is exempt and what documentation is required.

Do the same requirements apply for NFA items, such as suppressors?

Yes, but additional information/documents will be required. Please Contact Us for more information on purchasing NFA items online.
